Apparently a Dr. Greg Thomas has found heart disease in ancient Egyptian mummies. What!? This find is interesting because the Egyptians only had fresh foods and a non sedentary lifestyle. They may even had consumed very little animal fats as well, which can cause plaque buildup in the arteries from cholesterol. So what's the big deal?? Of course what we do or eat determines our cholesterol levels most the time- but to know that even despite cutting all the bad things out that cause heart disease, humans can be genetically prone naturally to have heart disease. This goes to strengthen my thought that there is little we can do to prevent some health disease with prophalayics and a healthy life style. So what do you think? Can we assume that no matter what we do some things are just genetic and un stoppable? Can cancer really be cured or is it just like heart disease in the ancient mummies- a natural part of the human makeup?

This is very interesting! But we have to assume that it is possible that this mummy led a very sedentary lifestyle, since mummies are noblemen(and women...) and that's what people of wealth do. Typically. And though you point out that many things are hereditary, it's too tempting to say there's nothing we can do about and therefore why try (which, knowing you personally, you would NOT say...). But I for one would rather live a healthy lifestyle, feel GOOD 45 years and then die of something I couldn't prevent, than feel crummy for 60 years, spend 10 hardly able to move and then die of something I COULD have prevented.
ReplyDeleteI don't disagree about anything you said, only that I'm wanting the fact that this bad talking about our generation and how we have gotten so un healthy when all along in the ancient past there was alway unhealthy lifestyles. What I forgot to mention is that Egyptian's loved beer and bread, and the royals did get carried around on sitting transportation. Yes, they probably did live a "very sedentary life style" and ate unhealthy food. But currently the amount of money spent for research and the fad diets and cholesterol medications seem to be a ploy for you to spend more money. More money on something that has always plagued advanced society. GREED ! More food, more space, more power, more more more ! Yes be proactive and be healthy, feel great doing it. BUT don't expect anything to change in the way greedy societies seem to function. " I didn't start the fire, it was always burning, since the worlds been turning! "
ReplyDeleteWell, to me it looks like we are all going to die sometime no matter what we eat or do for our health! ;)
